Our success opens many mouths eager to tell us of other adventures that await in the jungle. The challenge isn’t getting people to tell them about Chult; it’s sifting the truth from the mountain of rumor, conjecture, and myth.
Rumor: Bird folk inhabit a monastery hanging on the side of a
plateau many miles up the Olung River, past the Laughing Gorge. The bird folk, related to the “Terror folk”, are holding the last royal heir of Chult as their prisoner.
Rumor: Deep in the heart of the jungle is a city built by minotaurs.
It’s now overrun by snake people, but even worse things dwell below.
Rumor: If you head up the Tiryki River about five days by canoe,
you’ll see a stone spire to the east. A century ago it was a signal tower for communication across Chult. Natives called it Firefinger. Now long abandoned, except for the “Terror folk”
nesting there, and if they spot you, you’ re in for a fight.
Rumor: One must purchase a charter of exploration at Fort Beluarian before undertaking any jungle expedition. The Flaming Fist punishes explorers who don’t have the required paperwork.[ Sounds like a shakedown.]
Rumor: Chult had many kings and queens, but none more beautiful than
Queen Zalkore. Thousands of warriors killed and died for her, but the only memory of her reign is the garden palace of Nangalore, which lies near the eastern
shore of the River Olung, north of Lake Luo.
Rumor: Dwarves are determined to reclaim Wyrmheart Mine, but a red dragon lives there now. Haven’t seen one of them in a while.
Rumor: Some city folk were expecting the arrival of a Halruaan
airship called the Star Goddess. It never arrived. [where was its origin? that might help locate a line to search.]
Rumor: Watch out for any blue-tinged mist. It spreads a
fever that drives people mad.
Rumor: A dragon turtle named Aremag lives in the Bay of ChuIt, demanding treasure from ships sailing in or out of port. That’s why you don’t see pirate ships in our port.
Rumor: Long ago, a peaceful tribe of fisherfolk called the Aldani
angered Ubtao by catching and eating all the lobsters in a river. As punishment
for their greed, they were all transformed into monsters that dwell In the
Aldani Basin.
Rumor: Perched atop a plateau overlooking the Aldani Basin
is a ghost village. All the people there disappeared. You can reach the basin
by following the River Soshenstar.
As we roamed the streets, we learned more:
1. Daisee
was able to purchase a book (Volo's Guide to Monsters) from a funny looking
man, Volothamp “Volo” Geddarm. Only 50gp.
2. Diero learned from
the harbormaster Zindar: there is a 500 gp bounty on each pirate
captains plying the seas around Chult. The druid eager to be the one bringing
in the head of his nemesis, captain Zaroum Al-Saryak.
3. As an archaeologist,
Kevar listened more to the lore and history. The rise and fall of the now
'Forbidden City' Omu which fell from grace of their god Uptao.
4. Sudieman had more pressing matters, locating the ‘Order of the
Gauntlet’ asking them to send help to Camp Vengeance.
18 June (Kythorn)-Dino Races: 3 races of 4 dino each. Held at Golden Throne. (honker, bonecrsuher, scarback, nasty-box, jungle-princess). Daisee makes killing, winning 1330 gp on bets placed on honker.
The kinder is gleefully showing off her winnings as we roam the streets, when suddenly, we hear screaming and rush towards the sound. Coming face-to-face with a large barrel rolling down the road towards us. Hits Fakeem, flies over Daizee's head, continuing on to hit Diero. Sudieman looks up in time to realize someone wearing a brown hood pushed the barrel and ran…its face had bright snake-like green eyes. Snake people. Was that meant for us?!
As we dust off our clothing and check on the other civilians caught in the barrel's path, a half-elf approaches (a small red-dragon familiar on her shoulder), "You are the ones who brought Vorn into the city! I am Xandela. PLEASE, take me with you into the jungles and help me find my father, Artus
Cember." Kevar seems smitten and about to offer aid when Daisee chimes in, "Sorry we can't help." As we part ways, Kevar asks the kinder why, "Red-dragon? I don't trust her."
It seems we have gained notoriety as others approach during the
day:
1. A member of ‘Lords
Alliance’, Laryik, asks us to map Nangalore and Orolunga. He offers a sailing
ship as reward.
2. Another female
chultan, Rocah, needs our escort to Fort Beluarian. "Talk is, you trekked
into the jungle without papers. That tells me you are not aligned with those
'Flaming Fists' thieves! I need you to accompany me there to cause a
distraction while I ransack the captain’s quarters. Prove he’s aligned with
pirates." We’ll go on premise of seeking expedition charter.
